The RTS and RTS II with PMD W-6 motor drive also manage 5fps, but I can't think of anything faster in the Contax/Yashica system. Am I missing anything? Thanks for your help! Seems like the RTS III is capable of about 5 FPS, whereas everything else I’ve seen tops out around 3. I’d be open to Yashica too, although I don’t believe their external drive does better than 2 or maybe 3 FPS. Don’t care about flash sync, 1/4000th second shutter, any of that stuff. I’d also love it if I could find something with a form factor closer to the Aria, even if it requires an external motor. I’d love it if there was a slightly less “electronic” option, although I know that’s tough in the Contax lineup. As far as I can tell, the RTS III “wins” in this category. I know this is an old thread, but I’d love some advice or opinions on this topic.įor my specific purposes, I’m trying to identify which C/Y mount cameras have the fastest motor drives. You may find it easier to track down a Yashica quickly. Many keen photographers used to buy Yashicas as a more affordable way of getting to use the excellent Zeiss glass. The thing about film photography is that as long as the viewfinder and shutter work, you can put exactly the same film in a cheap camera as goes into an expensive one, and with the same lens, you will get the same result. You could probably pick up a Yashica FX-D or FX-3 for about £50. Yashica cameras were very good, and used the same lens mount. You've chosen well, if you have a set of those. The Zeiss lenses made for Contax SLRs were very, very good indeed. Then I scrolled down to this point and it sort of started to make sense. I saw this thread and thought I'd fallen into some sort of time vortex! Getting a Contax camera thus makes the most sense since I already have the lenses.

I have a metabones C/Y speed booster that I use all the time on my GH5 for my Contax lenses, but the main reason I'm asking about a Contax camera is I'm interested in getting into 35mm film photography. Unlike Nikon and Leica (for eg) there isn't enough volume to support a thriving repair service or market I suspect. If you are the owner of CONTAX lenses you may find an adapter to use on a digital body, I think Novoflex makes one. The answer is that you do not want a CONTAX camera at all.

To the OP: A very minority system that is likely no longer to be repair or serviceable. Replies based only on inductive reasoning may not always hit the spot. As the RTSIII is 20 years old and as the RTS line was abandoned some time before CONTAX (not Contax BTW) stopped making cameras it seems unlikely that a new version will be released.
